NordGrid – Nordic Call for Smart Electricity Transmission

In the future, power systems will have to handle a much larger proportion of unregulated and volatile production, the risk of cyber-attacks, more HVDC-links, increased loads and higher cost of, and public resistance to, new infrastructure. Challenges are similar for all Nordic countries, and solutions can in many cases only be solved by joint innovative solutions. This call will suggest innovative solutions related to smart electricity transmission.

Hvem?

Enterprises - large and small - universities, GTS-institutes and other types of private and public organizations, The must be an industrial partner from each of the participating countries in an application. In addition, we welcome other types of partners.

Hvor meget?

IFDs can co-fund up to €300.000 per Danish partner and a maximum of €500.000 to all Danish partners if two or more partners participate in the application. The funding budgets mentioned are including co-funding from Nordic energy Research. Funding rates for Danish partners follows the standard funding rates for participants in IFDs Grand Solution programme.

Nordic added value

Applicants should elaborate on how the research would contribute to Nordic added value by enhancing Nordic strengths and addressing specific Nordic challenges and how the results of the project would have impact on the Nordic region. Means to achieve such effects could for example be: 

  • the closely integrated infrastructure with a strong capacity for power exchange.
  • the common marketplace for energy and energy related services.
  • the complementary production structure of the Nordic countries (hydro with storage, wind, nuclear, combined heat and power from biomass and possibly gas with CO2 capture and storage).
  • the competence and capacity of Nordic universities and research institutions.

National Danish call conditions

IFD will prioritize its funding to projects which,

  • demonstrate a clear benefit of the international cooperation to the Danish partners
  • having af significant impact on knowledge based growth and employment in Denmark
  • impact on green transition as outlined by the Danish Parliament.

In addition the project must live up to the following conditions,

  • The call focus on applied research, innovation and demonstration. The Danish part of the application must include at least one Danish enterprise with employees and economic activities in Denmark. In addition Danish universities, GTS-institutes, other public entries are also invited to participate in the application.
  • Any subcontracting must be clearly described in the application and budget overview.

Requirements for Danish SMEs

  • Danish participants must be registered as legal entities with economic and actually activities taking place in Denmark. The activities funded through Eurostars by IFD must be conducted in Denmark.  
  • Danish SMEs must have a turnover of at least 2 million Danish krone OR have obtained at least 500,000 DKK in equity or attracted the same amount in investments in the past financial year
  • Companies, which have existed for more than one year will be requested to present an audited annual account form the last full year.
  • A SME must be an SME according to the EU definition for and it must not be “an undertaking in difficulty” according to EU’ state aid rules:

Topics IFD can fund

IFD co-finance salary, materials, travel, dissemination and to a limited extend, national subcontracting.

Registration on the national e-grant portal

Each Danish participant in the application must individually register on the national e-grant portal no later than 14 days after deadline the formal application. The international application including annexes must be uploaded together with the registration.
