677.500 Algenius Foods is a start-up company from Copenhagen, who is on a mission to create sustainable alternatives to seafood from seaweed. Their first product is seaweed-based caviar. Unlike traditional caviar, which involves overfishing and depletion of fish populations, caviar of Algenius Foods offers a sustainable and superior alternative. Furthermore, cultivating seaweed for caviar production sequesters CO2, aiding in climate mitigation. The process consumes less energy compared to fish farming and reduces the carbon footprint associated with transportation of real caviar. This solution promotes biodiversity by avoiding harm to marine life and conserving aquatic habitats. With help of Innovationsfonden Algenius Foods will scale up this solution to serve its first customers, and will embark the innovation journey to create more alternatives that will help restore fish and seafood populations.
