This project will increase energy efficiency and accelerate the green transition of the global maritime sector and develop the position of the Danish maritime industry as frontrunner for decarbonisation by promoting a digital transformation through a cohesive and multifaceted innovation action covering:
- Development of vessel performance prediction tools by using potential theory and CFD methods to design vessels optimized for wave response, and to advance methods for simulation of vessels behaviour in a seaway against real operational data. Potential savings are app. 3% of the annual fuel consumption.
- Development of biofouling prediction models to cover all major types of coatings and calibrated with operational data from more than 10,000 vessel years. The models are expected to increase overall hull efficiency by 1% corresponding to an annual CO2 saving of 90,000 tonnes for the shipping companies participating in the project alone.
- Development of a digital twin for predicting engine wear enabling annual cost savings of more than $250,000,000 and CO2 savings of app. 600,000 tonnes based on the 800 vessels already connected to MAN ES’ CEON database.
- Development of an integrated system for digital land-based pilotage enabling remote navigation, thereby decreasing CO2 emission by up to 200,000 tonnes annually in Danish waters alone.
- Development of a system improving the comfort and health of crew on board CTV’s and increase energy efficiency by up to 8% per CTV.
