13.9 mill. Hydrogen is envisioned to become a key enabler and energy carrier in the future 100% renewable energy system with predicted applications within transportation, grid stability, industry, re-electrification, etc. The current Low-Cost Hydrogen project (LC-H2) has a game changing, break-through potential in the field of green hydrogen accelerating the entire PtX market. The project aims to validate/demonstrate electrolyser current density of 400 mA/cm2@1.6V and improve the efficiency of Alkaline Water Electrolyser (AWE) cell from today state-of-the-art of 63% energy conversion efficiency to 77% by combining different electrode/bipolar plate inventions in an optimised MW electrolyser configuration. The new inventions will make it possible to double the current density from 200mA/cm2 to 400mA/cm2 for the stack and thereby reduce the electrolyser stack CAPEX by a factor of two. Modelling technique and neutron imaging will be used for eliminating inflow/outflow bottlenecks in the cell supporting further optimisation of the cell efficiency – especially at high current densities.
In short, the LC-H2 project will make improvements to the key components of the alkaline electrolysed stack for green hydrogen to be able to compete with hydrogen from fossil sources and thereby pave the way for a society based on 100% renewable energy.

47.2 mill. In LSP Ship Factory, central stakeholders in the Danish maritime sector jointly develop novel robotization and digitalization technologies for the highly automated building, repair and recycling of modular ship designs. We introduce a novel cell-based concept for automated shipyard operations, in which processes are executed in a central multi-purpose/ multi-robot workspace. This cell-based concept optimizes the commissioning and continued development and extension of sophisticated automation equipment “out of the box” and enables shipyards to lift their highly manual operations today to flexible, digital and robotized operations, monitored and controlled product quality and attractive workplaces for existing staff and young professionals alike. We utilize the unique equipment of the newly established SDU Center for Large Structure Production (LSP), while supporting the shipyards and designers on implementing relevant aspects of the overall concept in their own operations with their own staff. LSP Ship Factory thus enables shipyards to counter the pressure of a fierce global competition and a lack of workforce with innovative and manageable technologies for robotized production operations around the lifecycle of ships. Outcomes of our joint developments prepare and support the Danish maritime sector with tangible solutions to reactivate and reshore the necessary competencies and capacities to engage in civil and naval initiatives for building and maintaining vessels in DK.

23.7 mill. Lower trophic level species aquaculture (LTA) is the most sustainable form of marine protein production. Expanded development in Denmark will address major societal challenges in green transition by providing healthy food, creating jobs outside of big cities, and contributing to the national target of reducing CO2 emissions by 70%. While Danish LTA is far behind the rest of the world in terms of production volume, it possesses excellent conditions for developing the industry: Local high-value species, and long protected coasts with high water quality. By developing a strong technology-based position in production of key species, Denmark has a unique opportunity to become a leader in LTA production of dulse and flat oyster.
LTA BOOST will develop new commercial-scale production methods for flat oysters and dulse species, with a large team of local industry and international technology experts. The main bottleneck to LTA industry growth so far has been an unreliable and insufficient seed supply. As such, LTA BOOST will provide this supply in Denmark, with efficient grow-out technologies, biosecurity, water treatment, practical guidance, and dissemination for commercial production. This will pave the road to future investment with low operational risks.
Outcomes from the LTA BOOST project will be implemented directly into industry through commercial-scale oyster and seaweed production, and indirectly via the development of the LTA technology value chain in Denmark.
