22.2 mill. Depression is a serious and debilitating disorder, which is under treated. Internet-based treatments delivering access to online treatment programs show promise to broaden the reach of treatment effectively for some patient groups, but is hampered by a rigid one-size-fits-all format.
The PERSONAE project aims to develop a unique digital mental health service model for depression that is flexible, data-driven, and personalised. To achieve this goal, the project proposes to develop four major components and unite them into one coherent service model. 1) Matching level of clinician contact to the patients’ needs. 2) Intelligent adaptation of the content of the online treatment program to each patient's specific symptom profile. 3) Machine learning algorithms for early detection of patients at risk of treatment failure. 4) A simple, coherent and personalised user experience.
National and international experts have convened in this consortium building on the knowledge from the IFD project ENTER regarding mobile monitoring and blended care and building on research demonstrating a large potential for unguided self-help and the use of machine learning algorithms in screening and assessment procedures as well as incorporating promising new research regarding adaptive programs.
The service is designed to be implementated immediately post-project both nationally and internationally.
PERSONAE = depression + digital treatment + personalisation

37.3 mill. The food ingredient companies, Palsgaard and NEXUS, face an opportunity to enter a new and emerging market of plant-based functionality ingredients to be egg replacers.
In PIER, the objective is to create novel high quality food applications by partly or fully replacing the eggs used as ingredients in processed foods with plant-based sources that provide similar or improved functionality and sensory properties, are cost-competitive and affordable, reduce climate impact, and respond to consumer trends. A scientific approach is necessary to achieve the highest consumer acceptance ensuring future-proof innovative ingredient solutions.
The interdisciplinary and complementary consortium of PIER covers the needed competences critical to fulfill the goals of PIER. PIER creates knowledge on the mechanisms of functional molecules in plant-based material relating to food structures of foams, emulsions, and gels that readily can provide scientists and food manufacturers of bakery, desserts, and food emulsions with basic understanding of the essential properties.
The market potential is very high, and we expect to launch commercially viable solutions already during the 4 year project period based on existing market channels. The opportunity is scalable within the current business model of Palsgaard, is supported by NEXUS R & D and will be further expanded.

50.4 mill. Neonatal screening is among the most impactful preventative health measures ever implemented. Here, we apply for an investment that will result in an unprecedented expansion of the national screening effort, which has a documented potential to massively prevent mortality and morbidity.
The PREDiSPOSED project implements our novel method - Double Batched Sequencing (DoBSeq) - that reduces the cost of identifying rare genetic variants by 94%: saving this project 75M DKK. In combination with the world-leading Danish biobanks and health registries, PREDiSPOSED will conduct nucleotide-resolution genomic screening of 113 genes associated with cancer predisposition syndromes (CPSs) at the lowest cost ever achieved in the world.
PREDiSPOSED reports actionable genetic variants back to the participants who can then opt for precision prevention already offered by Danish health care. PREDiSPOSED’s estimated diagnostic output will lead to >7,000 years of life saved, equivalent to >2B DKK in economic impact.
Using CPSs as a disease prototype, PREDiSPOSED has five main phases: 1) citizen perception of/response to screening for CPSs, 2) pilot study/testing, 3) retrospective DoBSeq of 200,448 adults (40% are already consented), 4) DoBSeq of 100,376 newborns, and 5) dissemination of results with the expressed aim of permanently expanding/establishing early childhood and adult genomic screening for CPSs and, likely, hundreds of other rare, serious, actionable, genetic conditions.
