15.0 mill. The scope of the project is to recycle high value precious metal catalyst and polymer components from HT-PEMFC MEAs, implement inhouse MEA production using alternative components and test the robustness of the new recycled MEAs in realistic operating conditions under a joint force of renewable energy system provider, recycling clean-tech startup and universities.
The project addresses both current and future issues of commercial HT-PEMFCs, and therefore facilitates the adaptation of PtX technologies, especially green methanol production due to the versatility of HT-PEMFCs for different applications and circular economy, which cover two of the important DK Innomissions.
Furthermore, there are several industrial synergies within the scope of this project, as the PEM technology is fundamental enabler of a successful Hydrogen Economy and PtX facilities. Furthermore, recyclability of PEM components allows a scale-up of production, thereby reducing overall cost of several applications important to achieving the global climate strategies and objectives, while simultaneously enabling a circular economy.

12.2 mill. Construction is one of the key sources of CO2 emission. One of the most used
construction materials are bricks, with more than 5 billion being produced each
year. Bricks are typically made of clay, which is a finite resource. However, the
use of vast amounts of clay, high-energy use and CO2 emission mean that the
industry needs more sustainable solutions.
The ReMaBricks project, which involves a Danish brickwork and three world-leading
universities from Denmark and one from Slovenia, aims to solve this issue.
The Recycled Material Brick (RMB) is a brick that has superior properties over
the traditional brick, is cheaper, more environmentally friendly, and helps
tackle the growing problem of accumulated hard-to-recycle materials such as
wind turbine blades and glass wool insulation. In fact, there is more glass fiber waste in the production of windmills than there is in the windmills being decommissioned. Fundamental in the project is the involvement of Vestas and Siemens Gamesa.
The goal of this project to:
- Replace at least 20% and up to 40% of clay with materials stored in landfills
today,
- Upcycle waste materials, that are hard-to-recycle,
- Reduce the amount of clay used for 1m2 wall (from 252 kg in clay bricks to
176.4 kg in the RMB),
- Reduce CO2 emission used for 1m2 wall by 25%,
- Prepare a product that is DGNB certified, is 11.77% cheaper for both brick
producers and customers and ready for market by the end of this 3-year
project.

18.5 mill. Large energy demand from the existing, underperforming Building Stock (BS), including refurbished and recent buildings jeopardizes the effort to reach deep decarbonization target. Such BS provides poor occupants’ comfort and suboptimal use of energy. RePUP develops, assesses, and implements a modular and reliable solution for bridging the performance gap of the existing BS related to both the BROKEN OCCUPANTS’ EXPECTATIONS and the OVERPRODUCTION OF CO2 emissions caused by an INTENSE AND POORLY CONTROLLED USE OF ENERGY. RePUP ground-braking human-in-the-loop (HuiL) approach is applicable to many types of buildings with different insulation levels, thermal mass and building service systems.
RePUP includes:
1. DEBUG-AI to detect and eliminate faults.
2. HuiL perception-based control through a dedicated feedback and occupants’ tracing app:
3. A 3D (weather, energy prices, dynamic occupants’ needs) model predictive control to maximise the renewable energy use (flexibility), under the RePUP COMFORT GUARANTEE.
The RePUP solution will be developed and tested in demo-buildings (offices, campus buildings, schools, private houses).
RePUP will create growth and exporting opportunities for the Danish IoT and HVAC-related industries and SMEs, by generating a ready-to-be-implemented solution. This will be commercialised by CLIMIFY Aps and the consortium partners. RePUP will allow Danish key players to set future standards for buildings, IoT, HVAC, and Indoor Environmental Quality.
