5.5 mill. Alternative carbon-free fuel engines are crucial in the decarbonization of the shipping industry. However, the limited durability of alternative fuel nozzles are unacceptable, and the underlying cause remains unknown. This project aims at extending the lifespan of these alternative fuel nozzles by developing a numerical phase field framework to simulate thermo-mechanical fatigue damage in the alternative fuel nozzles, based on novel material models and new phase-field fatigue methods.
