20.4 mill. Today’s automation by means of robots to a large extent relies on manual processes and case by case programming. Therefore, the establishment of automation solutions usually takes long time and requires high level engineering expertise that needs to be built up during extensive university educations as well as practical experience. This makes the process of deploying solutions slow and expensive. All together this severely limits how companies can adopt robotic solutions cost-efficiently.
The aim of this project is to enable robot suppliers to develop products that can capture the knowledge embedded in already running automation solutions and make it available for fast engineering of new efficient automation solutions. The vision is that this can be enabled by products and methods that combine (1) a data infrastructure in which robot data of already established solutions is gathered, (2) a search system by which an operator can find relevant solution elements and (3) methods that allow the operator to connect the found elements into a new robot system.
The project will achieve this in a close collaboration between robot suppliers, manufacturing companies, and universities. The project will enable (1) the suppliers to address new business opportunities, (2) the manufacturing companies to faster establish new as well as optimizing already running robot solutions and (3) the universities to create new knowledge in the intersection between digitalization and automation.

13.3 mill. FLIP solves widespread, major challenges in the production of sheet and tube metal parts, namely: the absence of cheap and fast tools for prototyping and producing small quantities of complex and free-form parts, difficulties in meeting customers’ design requirements, lack of cost-efficient local manufacturing and scrapping of components due to variance in sheet metal. These are recurring issues among the project's 6 end-users which hinder competitiveness and waste resources.
FLIP uses lasers to shape metal into products which is a paradigm shift applicable to the Danish market with 1000 sheet metal fabrication places [1] and as an export success to a vast international market.
The FLIP technology is fast, flexible, automated, has a low footprint, and does not require moulds. The technology was demonstrated in a previous IFD project, INTERLASE. Research in process modelling, beam shaping, and vision-based process control must be conducted to move FLIP to TRL 9 to finalise the novel technology. The five system integrators in FLIP’s consortium are partners who have the expertise, network in the field to develop, manufacture and bring this revolutionary product to the end-users and the global market.
A creation of +950 Danish jobs is expected after 10 years from end-users becoming more competitive and system integrators developing, manufacturing, and selling the FLIP system. The FLIP system has a potential market value estimated at +1,000 mill. DKK.

22.3 mill. Floating wind energy is a cornerstone of a carbon-free electricity supply. The Danish offshore wind industry is in a key position to play a leading role in the coming market, which is estimated to exceed 16.5 GW by 2030. In FloatLab, DTU, DHI, Ørsted, Siemens-Gamesa Renewable Energies, Stiesdal Offshore Technologies and STROMNING collaborate to secure a strong Danish market share through reduced time-to-market, reduced development costs (DEVEX) and a de-risked design method based on targeted lab tests and digital twin models.
The project results are anchored in six Key Innovations. During the project, 4 lab-scale campaigns are conducted, tackling a total of 7 Fundamental Unknowns for design of floating wind turbine support structures. Each campaign is designed as a rapid prototyping of a digital –twin-supported pre-simulate – test – re-simulate approach. The digital twin model complexity increases for each campaign, starting in year 1 with existing models and relatively low model fidelities and ending in year 4 with models that span real time with high levels of accuracy.
The Fundamental Unknowns have been chosen to reflect the current needs of the industry partners. They span 3D storm waves with swell, dynamic mooring, damping from heave plates, nonlinear hydrostatic loads of partially submerged cylinders, turbine operation in strong turbulence, gusts and shear, slamming loads on buoyancy tanks and validation against full scale data.
