760.000 Byggebranchens indvirkning på klima og miljø er veldokumenteret. En stor del af denne indvirkning skyldes de materialer, vi bygger med i dag. De er energikrævende at producere, afhænger af udvinding af ressourcer og er ikke-regenerative. For at bevæge os mod en ny og bæredygtig byggebranche har vi brug for nye materialer og produktionsprocesser. Vi tror på, at vi kan bidrage til dette mål med et mikrobielt dannet byggemateriale, som vi laver ved at kombinerer svampe og bakterier for at binde biogene affaldsressourcer eller groede ressourcer.
Danmark er et af de første lande, der skubber mod denne fremtid ved hjælp af regulering, der begrænser brugen af materialer gennem obligatorisk LCA-udregninger. Med stadigt faldende tærskler for tilladte emissioner fra bygninger i forbindelse åbner denne regulering et marked for nye materialer. Med denne politiske, samfundsmæssige og økonomiske motivation tror vi, at Danmark på lang sigt vil blive førende i et globalt bæredygtigt byggemarked.
Potentialet for vores materiale er lovende, men samtidig er branchen stadig begrænset af obligatoriske krav om overholdelse gennem test og certificeringer. Disse udgør store hindringer for nye opfindelser, der skal bringes på markedet, især for unge start-up virksomheder.
Innovationsfondens støtte er afgørende for den fortsatte udvikling og for at overvinde disse hindringer, komme tættere på markedsintegration og give os mulighed for at gøre vores del for en mere bæredygtig fremtid.
