Chips JU Chips For Europe Initiative Calls 2025 (CEI Calls)

The Chips for Europe Initiative (CEI) supports technological capacity building and innovation in the Union. Research and innovation activities aim to reinforce the EU’s strategic autonomy in electronic components and systems, supporting future needs of industries and the economy. The CEI calls foster the creation of pilot lines and large-scale infrastructures as well as targeted innovation in fields such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure.

Who?

The call targets Danish research organisations, RTO’s, and companies. All Danish organisations directly involved in activities in the projects are eligible as applicants to Innovation Fund Denmark.

What?

Innovation Fund Denmark offers co-funding to Danish participants in projects successful in this call. In addition, applicants may be eligible for EU co-funding according to the Chips JU criteria and maximum co-funding rates. EU co-funding is not included in the national co-funding from IFD.

How much?

Co-funding from Innovation Fund Denmark is limited to a maximum national co-funding amount of 650.000 EUR per project and a maximum 650.000 EUR per Danish partner. Minimum national co-funding amount is 50.000 EUR. If the project coordinator is a Danish organisation, the maximum national co-funding per project is raised to 1.300.000 EUR. Maximum national co-funding rates vary between 0-55% of the project costs. Please see the Chips JU Work Program 2025 for the EU funding intensities (Work Programme 2025, Appendix 6) as well as IFD funding rates (Work Programme 2025, General Annexes).

The announcement covers the following Chips JU CEI Calls 2025:

  • Open-source EDA tools development (HORIZON-JU-Chips-2025-IA-EDA)
  • Low power Edge AI Chips (DIGITAL-Chips-2025-1-IA-LEAI)
  • Accelerator for Advanced Strained Silicon on Insulator Substrates (DIGITAL-JU-Chips-2025-SG-SSOI)

There may be adjustments to the call, which is why the information here on the site is only indicative. In case of doubt or questions of interpretation, please refer to the Chips JU call text (WP2025 Appendix 6) and the national rules and conditions (WP2025 General Annexes)

After the central application deadline Innovation Fund Denmark will request applicants to upload a pdf of the application with annexes via the national e-grant platform. The invitation is normally sent approximately 2-4 weeks after the application deadline.

Non-public organisations will be requested to upload a ‘No undertaking in difficulty declaration’ and a “Financial and legal declaration’. In addition, SME’s will be required to upload an ‘SME declaration’. The templates are available below, under ‘Documents’.

N.B: This announcement does not cover the calls for quantum pilot lines. Funding for Digital Europe calls are made in accordance with Article 25c of the General Block Exemption Regulation (i.e. DIGITAL-Chips-2025-1-IA-LEAI and DIGITAL-JU-Chips-2025-SG-SSOI).
