M-ERA.Net - Battery Technology

M-ERA.NET supports the European Green Deal by supporting research and innovation in clean energy technologies and future batteries. 32 countries participate in the call including all EU countries and UK, Switzerland, Canada, South Africa, South Korea, Israel, Turkey and Russia.

Who?

IFD can fund all types of partners including enterprises - large and small - universities, GTS institutes and other types of private and public organizations. Applications which includes both Danish knowledge partners and Danish commercial partners will be prioritized by IFD if two applications are evaluated equally qualified by the international evaluation panel.

What?

M-ERA.NET will support the transition towards a greener circular economy by supporting research and innovation in sustainable energy storage technology and material designs. M-ERA.NET focuses on the full innovation chain from excellent science and research to innovative industrial application.

How much?

IFDs can co-fund up to € 300,000 per Danish partner and a maximum of € 500,000 to all Danish partners if two or more partners participate in the application. The funding budgets mentioned are including co-funding from EU. Funding rates for Danish partners follow the standard funding rates for participants in IFD's Grand Solution programs.

General considerations

  • In general, special focus on materials science, processing, and engineering that allows the EC to meet its sustainable development goals is strongly recommended. Sustainability aspects of the targeted solutions and / or materials must be addressed in the proposal. Proposals should avoid as far as possible the use of hazardous compounds and demonstrate that the materials and processes involved in the research will be safe and will have a minimum impact on the environment.
     
  • Unless expressly justified, proposals should comply with the open data science directive from the EC. It is expected that proposals include intellectual property rights management and proper knowledge transfer and exploitation strategy. It is expected that part of the deliverables of the project include open source codes, data management and curation methodology, and / or demonstrative examples of the technologies proposed.
     
  • Issues of societal concerns should be addressed in a systematic way, if possible with an added value by interacting with Social Sciences and Humanities research or citizens.
     
  • Gli balance measures should also be considered .

The following six topics are defined for the Call 2021:

  • Topic 1: Modeling for materials engineering, processing, properties and durability
  • Topic 2: Innovative surfaces, coatings and interfaces
  • Topic 3: High performance composites
  • Topic 4: Functional materials
  • Topic 5: New strategies for advanced material-based technologies in health applications
  • Topic 6: Materials for Additive Manufacturing

Eligible project structure and application
Minimum requirement: Project consortia must consist of at least 3 partners (all requesting funding from a funding organization participating in the call) from two different countries of which at least 2 must be EU members states of associated countries.

National Danish call conditions
IFP will prioritize its funding for projects which:

  • demonstrate a clear benefit of international cooperation for the Danish partners
  • having an impact on green transition as outlined by the Danish Parliament
  • having a significant impact on knowledge based growth and employment in Denmark

Any national subcontracting must be clearly described in the application and budget overview. Subcontracting to other partners in the project cannot be funded by IFD.

IFD co-finance salary, materials, travel, dissemination and to a limited extend, national subcontracting

Requirements for Danish SMEs

  • Danish participants must be registered as legal entities with economic and actual activities taking place in Denmark. The activities funded through IFD must be conducted in Denmark.
     
  • Danish SMEs must have a turnover of at least 2 million Danish krone OR have obtained at least 500,000 DKK in equity or attracted the same amount in investments in the past financial year.
     
  • Companies, which have existed for more than one year will be requested to present an audited annual account form the last full year.
     
  • A SME must be an SME according to the EU definition for and it must not be "an undertaking in difficulty" according to EU 'state aid rules.
