Get the overview: How Innovation Fund Denmark will invest in 2023

Based on the agreement on the research reserve, Innovation Fund Denmark will disburse approximately DKK 1.6 billion in 2023 for research and innovation within, among other things, future green solutions, digitization, technology, life science and health.

As something new, Innovation Fund Denmark will also set up a new program for quantum research and quantum technology.

IFD's  board has now adopted the majority of the investment budget for 2023.

Below you can get an overview of application rounds, deadlines and concrete themes for the individual programs in 2023.

Innoexplorer

Open section, Innoexplorer in 2023 is partially themed within three politically decided themes:

- Digitalisation, technology and innovation

- Green research, technology development and innovation

- Life science, health and welfare technology

In 2023, there are also funds that are not earmarked for the politically prioritized areas.

Application rounds:
Innoexplorer expects to have two application rounds in 2023

1st application round:

  • Opens: March 22
  • Application deadline: 3 May
  • Pitch meetings for IFD's panels: week 24-26

2nd application round:

  • Opens: August 16.
  • Application deadline 27 September
  • Pitch meetings for IFD's panels: week 45-47

Changes in guidelines:
Innoexplorer's guidelines have undergone minor adjustments to accommodate misunderstandings and generally create greater clarity in the guidelines.

Among other things, changes have been made to the questions that the applicant must answer in the project description, just as it is now a requirement that the applicant must submit up to six slides describing the project.

The final guidelines will soon be published on Innovation Fund Denmark's website

Application rounds:

1st application round

  • Opens: March 21, 2023.
  • Application deadline: 18 April, at 12.00 noon

Innofounder expects to hold pitch meetings for IFD's panels in week 24-26

It is still undecided when the autumn application rounds will be.

Changes in guidelines:
Change regarding the thematization of the funds under Innofounder means that if an application is submitted under one of the three themes, but does not receive a grant from this pool because the pool is exhausted, the application will automatically be transferred to processing under the non-thematized funds.

If, on the other hand, an application is submitted under the non-themed funds, but also fits into one of the three themes, Innovation Fund Denmark can choose to process the application in the relevant themed pool first, before it – if no grant is obtained here – is processed under the non-thematic means.

In addition, there are only minor adjustments in the program's guidelines.

Webinar:
Innofounder is planning a webinar about the program on March 29 at 10.00-11.00.
It will soon be possible to register via Innovation Fund Denmark's website

Open section, Innobooster is thematized in 2023 within three politically decided themes:

- Digitalisation, technology and innovation

- Green research, technology development and innovation

- Life science, health and welfare technology

Application rounds:
There is an ongoing application deadline for the program - until 14 December 2023 or as long as there are funds within the individual themes.

Innobooster publishes guidelines and opens for applications on 22 March 2023.

Changes in guidelines:
Innobooster's guidelines have undergone a number of adjustments:

Among other things, the financial requirement for the company's 'gross profit' is changed so that the requirement of a minimum of DKK 250,000 in gross profit must only be met in one of the last three years' audit reports.

Definitions in the guidelines have also been adjusted with a view to increasing the possibility of financing equipment for development activities including pilot plants.

The assessment criteria have also been adjusted with a view to ensuring greater professional diversity - both in the project and in connection with the subsequent implementation, the focus on the project bringing new knowledge into the company has been sharpened and it has been made clear that the value creation must take place in Denmark and in companies that expect to develop in Denmark. In addition, the applicant must describe the risks foreseen in the project, which is also an assessment criterion.

In addition, the new guidelines contain a number of minor clarifications, including state aid rules, clarification of requirements and deadlines in connection with a grant, etc.

The final guidelines will be published on the Innovation Fund's website on 22 March 2023.

Several adjustments have been made in the guidelines for 2023. Note, among other things, that projects that receive a Grand Solutions grant from Innovation Fund Denmark in 2022 and onwards will be paid out funds retroactively on the basis of submitted accounts

Specifically, this means that:

  • 20 percent of the grant is paid out when the Investment Agreement between the grant recipient and Innovation Fund Denmark is signed and approved by Innovation Fund Denmark.
  • accounts and progress reports are approved half-yearly and, on the basis of this, funds requested in the accounts are disbursed.
  • The last 10 percent of the grant is paid upon approval of the final accounts and final report.
